These vibrant inks have a way of capturing everyone’s curiosity because of the way they bloom and expand across the page, even with the tiniest drop!
In this class, you’ll be invited to experiment with the way the inks work and interact with each other. They almost never do the same thing twice and it is fun to learn how to “follow their lead”! You’ll be creating and experimenting with the inks on round YUPO paper, which allow the inks to travel and move.
Finally, you’ll add embellishment with white gel pens, kuretake gold pens or posca acrylic paint pens for details.
No experience is needed. All materials are included.

Join us at ArtPlay for an afternoon or evening of watercolor painting, community & creativity, learning the art of landscape painting with watercolors. Bring an image of our beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain surroundings or other landscape setting that inspires you!
In this class, you’ll experience the wonders of layering transparent colors to create layered images of our beautiful Blue Ridge mountains or other favorite landscape.
Casi is a wonderful teaching artist who will guide you into the world of watercolors as you learn the joy of layering and building up a colorful landscape. She will share tips, tools, techniques, & demonstrations as you learn the art of painting with watercolors. You will begin with a step-by-step watercolor demo where you will warm-up by practicing some foundational skills, and then transition into landscape painting.
Throughout the class, you will be guided in exploring basic techniques, breaking down the elements of a landscape and building values.
Please bring a reference photo as a visual muse (magazine page, or photo on your phonefrom a hike, a favorite mountain-scape; beach scene, meadow, forest, or anything that captures your heart and eye, to use as inspiration).

Led by local artist Casi Fordham, you will use a gorgeous palette of wet-based watercolors in a ceramic dish and quality brushes to create smooth, fluid strokes and playful layers of various hues, shapes and marks.

Up to 6 people

Join local artist Michelle Hamilton for a fun & colorful session of learning the process and art painting and layering with pigmented beeswax.
You will discover various ways to build and apply the wax pigment as well as tools & techniques for creating patterns, textures and shapes by carving into the wax to create lines and details. Image transfers into the wax will be part of the fun, so be sure to bring some laser jet copies of photos or magazine images that you love.
You will have practice backgrounds first to play and experiment with layering both clear and colored wax. You will then create a piece unique to you on your choice of two 8x8 or one 11x14 wood panel.
All materials will be included.
