Painting Flowers Abstractly, Saturday January 17, 2026 1PM-4PM with local artist Alison Press

$135.00

Brand new offering for the new year! We are so excited to bring you this new workshop and to welcome local artist Alison Press to our ArtPlay community!

This beautiful workshop had been created by Alison for all levels of creatives who are wanting to express themselves by learning and using abstract painting techniques. Acrylic paints will be used to explore color, forms, and values by using bold paint strokes, thick and thin lines, and fun interpretations of flowers on the canvas. Emphasis will be on painting loosely, finding one’s own style abstractly, and most importantly having fun!

During this class, Alison will guide you in creating boldly painted flowers using a loose abstract style. The painting process will start  with a  quickly drawn  charcoal sketch of a floral bouquet still-life,  as a starting point, directly on the canvas. The sketch will not be detailed or expected to be precise, just a guide to starting. Then by laying down fields of color  and building layers using paint , each artist will begin to define their own flower images.  The paint layers will be handled loosely and abstractly, in line, form and colors. Many layers and color combinations will be painted upon the canvas. The image may become exaggerated and not resemble the initial sketch or reference point of the bouquet. Each painting  can become more refined or conversely more abstract by adding bold marks and lines. It will be individualized, per each artist’s desired effect. The process will be repeated until the painting feels complete, whether wholly non-objective, or slightly recognizable as floral images.

Guidance on tools, colors, and materials will be provided throughout the workshop and each participant will be encouraged to create fearlessly, and outside their comfort zone. Each painting will be authentically unique and ready to proudly display in their home.

No experience is needed! All materials will be supplied and participants will leave with a new completed work.
