Threads of Wellbeing: Slow-Stitch Fabric Collage, Saturday 2/07 11AM-4PM with guest artist Elizabeth Garlington
Join us for a cozy, restorative Saturday of slow stitching and fabric collage—an experience designed to gently nourish your nervous system while inviting ease, spaciousness, and a rhythmic sense of flow.
We are delighted to welcome guest artist Elizabeth Garlington, who will be sharing her creative magic with us throughout the day!
In this full-day workshop, Elizabeth will introduce you to the art of intuitive fabric collage. You’ll begin by selecting the fabrics and thread colors you feel most drawn to, followed by arranging, layering, cutting, and hand-stitching your materials into a one-of-a-kind textile composition.
Elizabeth will guide you in learning the straight stitch, a simple and beautiful hand-embroidery technique used to connect fabrics and build surface texture.
Hand embroidery cannot be rushed. It invites you into a calming, repetitive rhythm, asking for just enough focus to keep you rooted in the moment. These tiny, seed-like stitches—made slowly, one after another—are often referred to as slow stitch or stitch meditation.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with foundational hand-embroidery skills, an understanding of intuitive collage design, and a new appreciation for the joy of arranging, rearranging, and “auditioning” fabrics.
This kind of handwork can become a grounding daily practice—just a few stitches each day can ease the mind while gradually building beautiful, meaningful textile pieces. You will be given the skills you need to continue the creative making in your own time. And Elizabeth will provide you with her contact and reference materials in support of your continued creating!
All materials are provided with your registration, and no experience is needed. We will break for an hour lunch (fridge on site and cafes in walking distance).
You are welcome to bring any favorite fabrics or small embellishments you’d like to incorporate!
