What might happen if you gave yourself a whole day to slow down, make something with your hands, and follow your curiosity wherever it leads?
Come spend a day exploring the pages of a journal you create entirely from scratch—one that feels less like a traditional book and more like a collected field of memories, textures, marks, words, and discoveries.
We’ll begin by making the journal itself, layering plaster, cardboard, watercolor paper, vintage sheet music, old art papers, envelopes, recycled and found materials, and other bits of creative treasure. You’ll learn simple accordion-style inserts and wrap binding, creating a tactile, wonderfully imperfect journal that feels completely your own. You’ll also have the option to weave in natural elements such as leaves, twigs, and other treasures gathered along the way.
Then we’ll begin filling the pages—not with a plan or a finished picture in mind, but with curiosity.
I’ll guide you through my intuitive art-journaling process:
Write → Notice → Conceal → Respond → Reveal → Trust What Emerges
Through writing prompts, playful mark-making, watercolor and acrylic inks, collage, layering, and the unexpected magic of covering things up and bringing them back into view, we’ll practice listening to what the page has to say.
You might begin with a word and end up with a painting. A simple mark might lead somewhere surprising. A piece of paper you almost discarded might become the heart of a page. Some pages may be filled with color and imagery; others might hold a few words, a question, a fragment, or almost nothing at all.
There is nothing you need to know how to make, and nothing you need to get “right.”
This is a day to loosen your grip on the outcome, follow what catches your attention, and discover what becomes possible when you give yourself permission to play.
Come curious. Come open. Come ready to make a little mess and see what wants to emerge.
No art experience necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to collaborate with your creativity!
