Join us for a Saturday afternoon of color, collage & community! Following in the footsteps of renowned collagists such as Picasso, Braque, Matisse, and Bearden, participants will design and create a one-of-a-kind mixed media collage-painting using a rich variety of papers, paints, markers, and mixed-media materials. Collage elements may be cut or torn from magazines, newspapers, photographs, old paintings, sheet music, tissue paper, wallpaper, paint samples, and more. The possibilities are expansive—limited only by imagination.
Each collage will unfold intuitively, guided by gentle prompts from Alison. Artists will be encouraged to notice what colors, shapes, forms, and marks draw their attention, and to follow those instincts as they build their composition. Layers of collage will be complemented with paint and other materials as each piece evolves toward completion.
The final work may emerge as a recognizable image—such as a figure or landscape—or as a fully abstract, non-objective composition. Throughout the process, core artistic principles including balance, value, and color harmony will be introduced and explored, supporting each artist in bringing their unique vision to life.
You are welcome to bring your own photo or images for subject matter reference, and any papers and other ephemera for added personalization of your art. At the end of the workshop each attendee will have a completed, colorful and one-of-a-kind collage painting, ready to take home!
