BIO

Katie Knorovsky: I am a fiber artist in West Asheville. Weaving is my favorite act of preservation. It’s a practice of using my hands to immortalize a moment, to translate a sense of place into color and texture, and even to thread meaning into mundanity. Slowing to the pace of needle and yarn puts a pin in the breakneck whirl of life, opening up interludes for noticing — and attempting to reflect back — glimmers of the brilliance I encounter. Fascination with place runs as a common thread through my life and builds on two decades as a writer and magazine editor for publications including National Geographic Traveler and Hidden Compass. www.katieknorovsky.com

HELENE RECOVERY

Prior to Helene’s destruction of the River Arts District, not far from where I live and work,a curated display of my fiber art appeared at ArtPlay Gallery & Creativity Studio, where I also taught circular weaving workshops. During the flood, ArtPlay gallery, like many other spaces in the district, was destroyed.  Although all of our artworks were removed just prior to the flood, we lost our gallery home. As of 2025, I am again leading beginner-friendly weaving workshops at ArtPlay's new location in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Asheville. I am also looking forward to being part of the next phase of Marquee upon its reopening.
