Andreina Bates

Bio:

Andreina (“Andre-eena”), a native of Venezuela, is a bold and expressive artist based in Asheville, North Carolina. Her vibrant, joy-filled work invites the viewer into a world of connection, emotion, and interpretation—each piece a conversation between artist and audience.

From a young age, Andreina was captivated by curiosity. She loved science and solving problems, which led her to a successful career as an Industrial Engineer. But art was always in her blood. Her father, an avid painter from the Basque region, introduced her to the meditative beauty of Sumi-e. Her mother, originally from Zaragoza, ran a gallery in Venezuela for over 20 years, championing the voices of Latin American artists. These early influences laid the foundation for Andreina’s artistic path—a blend of structure and spontaneity, intuition and intention.

In 2020, she moved to Asheville, where she discovered not just a new home, but a vibrant, welcoming artist community that embraced her wholeheartedly. Surrounded by creatives who value authenticity and expression, Andreina found a space where her art could evolve and flourish.

Helene Recovery:

Then came Hurricane Helene in 2024—a storm that shook the artistic soul of the region. Like so many others, Andreina faced profound loss. Yet in the aftermath, something powerful emerged: a renewed sense of unity, purpose, and creative fire. The storm, though destructive, reignited her passion and deepened her connection to the community around her.

Today, Andreina paints from her new working studio and gallery in the heart of Asheville’s iconic River Arts District, inside the historic Wedge Building. It’s a space filled with energy, color, and stories—where the echoes of resilience and renewal breathe life into every canvas.
