The Shape of Light: Cyanotype Portraits, Saturday 10/18, 10AM-1PM with local artist Miranda Wildman
Step into the studio and take time out for art-making through sunlight, shadow, and self-reflection.
In this immersive workshop, you’ll explore the dreamlike world of cyanotype—an early photographic process that uses sunlight and chemistry to create rich, deep blue prints. Working with botanicals, lace, and your own silhouette or gesture, you’ll create layered compositions that blur the lines between self-portrait, memory, and natural imprint.
You’re warmly invited to bring meaningful items from home—photocopies of photographs, fabric scraps, pressed plants, letters, lace, or other personal objects—to incorporate into your prints. These personal touches can become powerful layers in your cyanotype story, adding depth and resonance to the final piece.
This is an invitation to slow down, to notice the subtle, and to let go of perfection. We’ll play with composition and layering, experiment with exposure, and embrace the beautiful unpredictability of working with the elements. Whether you’re drawn to storytelling, abstraction, or simply curious about alternative process photography, this space welcomes you.
No experience is necessary—just a sense of curiosity and a desire to make something by hand. All materials will be provided, along with guidance, inspiration, and time to explore at your own pace.
☼ Leave with a small collection of one-of-a-kind cyanotypes on paper + fabric
☼ Open to all levels and identities
☼ Come as you are, leave a little more blue (in the best way)
Materials Included:
Cyanotype paper and fabric of varying sizes, abundant lace collection, botanicals from our garden including flowers, herbs, leaves, indoor cyanotype lamps, water tubs, surprise mixed media finishing touches such as gold + silver leaf, and acrylic markers.
