Star Luminaries: "A Little Bit of Book Magic", Sat. 11/08, 12PM-3PM w/ local artist Eileen Bos

$130.00

If you have been to Asheville’s Grove Park Inn recently, you may have noticed some incredible, larger-than-life paper sculptures on display. These magical beauties were imagined and then brought to life by the hands and talent of local artist Eileen Bos! We are super excited to be able to host Eileen as a teaching artist at ArtPlay, to bring you a brand new type of artistry into our studio!

In this beginner-friendly class, Eileen will invite you to dive into the magical world of paper sculpture, using books you are drawn to and stars cut from old book pages.

Using books, your imagination and LED fairy lights, you’ll be guided in creating free-forms/ shapes which will form a base- or structure- for our magical stars. We will then be using Low Temp hot glue, to secure each of our stars until we have a beautiful burst of them rising from the centers of our books!

Each student will go home with a book sculpture luminary.

NOTE: Eileen asks that you choose and bring ONE HARDCOVER BOOK of your choice. People sometimes choose Harry Potter, or other books with magical narratives, but please bring whatever you feel drawn to/ inspired by. If you have a gift recipient in mind, these luminaries can make wonderful gifts for book-lovers in your life!

Materials provided during this class include: a wood platform base for your books, hot glue guns, LEDS, USB plug converters + vintage book paper stars.

NOTE: For additional display suggestions, wall timers are a wonderful add-on which would allow your sculpture to turn itself on & off each day on its own, for fuss-free magic!

Eileen will also share with you about the “starlight projectors” as a “wall-wash backdrop” she uses to display her book sculptures (and how to order them).
