$135.00

Create your own feathered friend, using vibrant colors, whimsy & mixed media!

Join local artist Michelle Hamilton for a playful morning of creating your own folk art bird on a wood panel. Using collage papers acrylic paints & paint pens you’ll learn how to build a layered, textured piece inspired by the beauty and character of birds.

Bring a photo or visual muse of a bird that inspires you, or choose from a selection of bird imagery available in the studio.

Michelle will guide you through creating a textured background on your wood panel using acrylic paints and a variety of tools. From there, you’ll create a loose sketch inspired by your bird and transfer it onto your panel, learning how to simplify and stylize the shapes as you go.

You’ll then build up your bird image through a combination of acrylic paint pens & paints + collage papers for pattern, texture, and visual interest. To finish, you’ll explore the art of mark-making—what Michelle calls “the gingerbread”—using white Gelli Roll pens, Posca paint pens, and fine-tip acrylic paint bottles to add playful lines, patterns, and details that bring your bird to life.

No experience is needed! All materials are included. Come play with color, pattern, texture, and imagination—and create a one-of-a-kind folk art bird of your own!
