What if you began without knowing what you were going to create?
On Halloween afternoon, we’ll step into the beautiful space between intention and discovery, using acrylic ink, water, movement, and imagination to explore what can emerge when we loosen our grip on the outcome.
If you joined me for this workshop in March, we’re going to give ourselves a little more room to breathe this time… more space to explore, notice, and see where the ink wants to take us.
We’ll begin with small intuitive ink studies, experimenting with the way water and pigment move, bloom, and transform on the page. From there, we’ll move into larger pieces, allowing color, marks, and unexpected shapes to become our guides.
One of our explorations will be created with eyes closed and music playing on mineral paper. This is an invitation to slow down, release control, and let your hands respond before your mind has a chance to decide what the painting should be. Once the piece has dried, we’ll return to it with fresh eyes and begin the process of noticing what may be waiting to emerge.
You may discover a face, a figure, a bird, a landscape, a doorway, or something you couldn’t have imagined beforehand. We’ll learn to look for those moments of recognition and gently develop them into something uniquely your own.
Throughout the afternoon, we’ll explore:
• Acrylic ink and the magic of water, movement, and flow
• Small intuitive studies as a way to warm up and experiment
• Eyes-closed painting as a practice in releasing control
• Mark-making with simple tools such as feathers and skewers
• Discovering imagery within abstract marks and unexpected shapes
• Developing a larger intuitive painting or portal
• Working with curiosity rather than trying to get it “right”
No previous experience with acrylic ink is necessary. In fact, you don’t need to consider yourself an intuitive painter at all.
This is an afternoon for stepping away from the need to know exactly where you’re going and becoming curious about what might be waiting for you along the way.
A little mystery. A little magic. A lot of room to play.
Come with an open mind and leave with a collection of small studies, a larger intuitive painting, and perhaps a new way of seeing what you’ve created.
