Spring Botanicals in Watercolors: Sunday 5/03, 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm with local artist Casi Fordham
Join us for a spring afternoon of watercolor painting, inspired by fresh blooms and the beauty of the season. If you’ve been curious about exploring watercolor, this beginner-friendly class offers a welcoming place to begin—no experience needed. Come slow down, observe, and let your creativity unfold as you bring florals to life on paper.
In this class, you’ll learn the foundational techniques in watercolor painting, using fresh Spring blooms as your inspiration. We will have plenty of flowers available for you, and if you have some blooms from your garden or elsewhere that you love, feel free to bring some along!
Local watercolor artist Casi Fordham will guide you in learning various wet into wet watercolor techniques, dry-brushing & using dark & light values as you build layers of color and shape to create your blooms, adding details and embellishments afterward.
Allowing the pigment and water to interact as they expand across the page together is a great way to trust the creative process as it unfolds. Watercolors have a way of leading and surprising you if you allow them to!
You will begin with a step-by-step watercolor demo where you will warm-up with Casi’s guidance, and then transition into several rounds of layering and painting on your background papers. We’ll explore basic techniques, break down the elements of building values, guided by demos each step along the way. You will bring home your practice pieces as well as a larger piece you’ll work up to.
PLEASE BRING WITH YOU: a vase for your flower (s) that you will place in front of you for visual reference.
A light snack and refreshing non-alcoholic bev. will be served.
All materials you need will be provided.
Come play, learn & create!
