Altar Vessels & Offering Bowls, Sunday 7/26: 10:00am-1:00pm with local Artist Katie Croft

$135.00

We are so excited to bring you this brand new beautiful offering with local artist Katie Croft!

Enter a slow, grounding space where your hands become the creators. In this three-hour class, we’ll shape an altar bowl and four small offering vessels, each one a quiet place for intention, gratitude, secrets, stories, or whatever you choose to hold.  The larger vessel can be made for your altar to hold offerings, wishes, gifts, and secrets. Each of the small bowls will honor the four elements of earth, fire, water, and air or the four cardinal directions to be placed in relationship to your altar.

Working with soft earth clay, you’ll form pieces that feel both ancestral and personal—objects that invite presence, ritual, contemplation and creativity. No experience is needed; just a willingness to sink into the rhythm of hand-building, creativity, curiosity, and play. Once you have completed the vessels we will paint them with colored slip and decorate with other wet clay techniques.

All materials provided, including Mica Clay.

Mined in the Manzano Mountains near Toas NM, this naturally micaceous clay is airfloated. This mica clay is rough and possesses little plasticity. It is used often in Native American pottery and is traditionally coiled thickly, then the shape refined. The pots are then polished by hand using either a soft cloth, smooth rock, or even a stainless steel spoon. Its rich heritage and versatile firing options make it a compelling choice for artists seeking a touchstone to the past.

Each piece will be fired after class and a time for pick up of finished work will be given.  It will take 2-3 weeks for the works to dry and then be fired.
